Leitrim Sweathouse Experience

Wood-fired lakeside sauna inspired by Ireland’s forgotten sweathouse tradition. Rooted in Leitrim heritage. Built for recovery, wellbeing and connection.

Keeldra Lake, Co. Leitrim

Heat. Cool down. Breathe. Reconnect.

At the edge of the lake, surrounded by woodland, stone and stillness, the Leitrim Sweathouse Experience offers a modern interpretation of Ireland’s traditional sweathouse culture.

Our wood-fired sauna experience combines heat, nature and recovery in one of the most peaceful landscapes in the northwest of Ireland.

Designed as a low-impact outdoor wellness experience, our sauna sessions support relaxation, social connection, post-exercise recovery and year-round use of Leitrim’s lakes and trails.

Whether you arrive after a walk, a swim, a training session or simply to slow down for an hour, the experience is intentionally simple.

A different kind of sauna experience.

The Leitrim Sweathouse Experience is not a luxury spa.

It is a grounded, authentic lakeside wellness experience inspired by the historic sweathouses once found throughout rural Leitrim.

Sessions take place in a supervised wood-fired sauna overlooking the natural landscape of Keeldra Lake and south Leitrim. Each session is designed to help you slow down, recover and reconnect with nature.

Ireland’s forgotten sweathouse tradition.

Long before modern wellness culture arrived in Ireland, rural communities across Leitrim used small stone sweathouses as places of heat, recovery and healing.

County Leitrim contains one of the highest recorded concentrations of sweathouses in Ireland. These small stone structures were traditionally heated using turf fires before people entered to sweat and recover.

The Leitrim Sweathouse Experience draws inspiration from this unique local heritage while creating a safe, modern and professionally operated sauna experience for today. Rather than recreating a historic sweathouse, our goal is to respectfully reinterpret the tradition through natural materials, wood-fired heat, landscape and storytelling.
